Today the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stream announcement event revealed that Steve from the Minecraft, the current best-selling video game of all time, is the next DLC fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch.

Steve will come with 3 Echo fighters, one being the female default character Alex, another being the Zombie, and the last being Enderman. In the trailer discussion Sakurai notes that the inclusion of Steve was a request from Nintendo. He continues that adding the character was a huge development task due to the style of the game. In the trailer it is shown that Steve will be able to place blocks and use some of the various tools from Minecraft as his attacks.

From the trailer footage there are shots of mining to upgrade the quality of Steve’s sword over the course of battle. There are also shots of TNT, the Anvil, Minecart, Pistons, and Flint and Steel. So it is likely that those will be the various attacks of the character. Steve’s Final Smash appears to be building throwing the opponent into a fortress full of creepers that explodes.

Sakurai stated that there will be a stream on October 3rd to show off the game play for Steve.
