Today Microsoft announced details on the upcoming X Box Series X. In a blog post the company revealed the full tech specs on the next gen console, and went in to further detail on the backwards compatibility and other features.

The console hardware will sport a custom 8 core Zen 2 CPU and a custom RDNA Class-2 GPU. According to Microsoft, this new hardware will allow developers to create cutting-edge games that can run in native 4k at 60 frames-per-second and up to 120 frames-per-second for competitive multiplayer titles.

This chipset will allow the console to use hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing for advanced lighting, visuals, and sound quality, the feature will be backwards compatible with some Xbox One titles.

Another feature of the console is the Xbox Velocity Architecture. This makes use of the console’s internal solid-sate hard-drive to implement an integration of hardware and software so that game assets are preloaded and streamed during game play. It also allows for persistent save states so players can pick up exactly where they left off even after powering down, updating, or unplugging the console.

The Xbox Series X is scheduled to release during the holiday of 2020.
